The team behind HabeshaLA is made up a team of Habesha diaspora who are passionate about event planning, journalism, digital art, and of course, their culture and community.
HabeshaLA came to fruition in 2013 when Aida Bee saw a disparity of social events and gatherings in Los Angeles in the Ethiopian community. Inspired from an eight-month stint working as an entertainment journalist in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Aida Bee began curating a Tumblr page of creative East Africans. She then created a Facebook page where she saw a positive response and high user engagement. Aida Bee saw the need of an organized platform for diasporic East African arts, an entity that receives little recognition and sees even less support. Summer 2014 saw the rebirth of HabeshaLA into a user-friendly blog and events company. HabeshaLA and its team of talented writers cover stories ranging from the latest in film, music, social issues, and exclusive interviews from the diaspora. HabeshaLA also produces networking and social events for the diaspora in the Los Angeles area.
